Baby Narwhal

* The gestation period of the narwhal is generally between 10-16 months
* Baby narwhals are referred to as "calves
* These calves are brown and have no spots, while the adult narwhals are blue-gray with white spots
* Narwhal calves are nursed for about four months after birth
* There is a very tight mother/calf relationship with narwhals
* There is not much information known about narwhal reproduction due to the fact that they are very difficult to study because they live in the arctic and they move around a lot
* Some scientists also believe that the males joust with their ivory tusks in order to court a fine female narwhal
